Hi all

I am very sorry if I have posted in the wrong group did not know where else to go with my problem.

I am using both msn messenger and windows messenger because I tested them to see if they worked but no.

I used to be able to have video and voice conversations over the Internet with the people I work with before I used a free internet service provider through a normal dial up connection.

Today I have a new ADSL installed for 24/7 connection. Now i can only send messages and not voice or video.

Their is no firewall installed on my computer and the ISP has informed me that their is no firewall on the modem. I have also tried ICQ and Yahoo. Icq won't work but Yahoo messenger does but poorly.

When connecting with microsoft messenger the receiving person agrees to the connect and then is informed that my computer is having problems with the connection.

I am pulling my hair out and I would be very gratefull for any help. The messenger is a very important tool for me as I am working abroad and I reccommend it to anyone when it works well.

Again sorry if I have posted in the wrong group.

Hey lasko,

Certainly a strange one - have you looked at your connection settings, specifically the Proxy setting?

The problem is on going, I have contacted the ISP which we will speak again tommorrow but I hear many that the Yahoo and ICQ use TCP where as the windows messenger uses UDP.

It could be that the ISP is blocking the UDP not with a firewall but with something else. I have tried all sorts but no joy.

Other ADSL users have no problem but some do. Their is not a lot to do on your own computer to change windows messenger you are just completely in the hands of your ISP.

How technology can be so great one day but then ridiculously stupid then next. I rate windows messenger really high for easy use and good quality communication however now with this problem I have it could be difficult for many people in the future with the expansion of ADSL. I think windows will have to look into this to make it more compatible for all users and all ISP.

All I want to do is work and keep in contact with my family.
