Knowing how you all like to waste your time. The BBC had a Test the Nations IQ test on UK TV last night.

Take the test yourself at

[bbc.co.uk...]

My IQ had not moved from last year ;)

If you're running on Linux but have the required version of Flash installed, they still won't show you the test (remember never to use a braindead flash detector without a bypass link). Just append iq_postshow.swf to the link above if you're in that situation.

About the test, well at least it didn't contain any glaring errors like their last one. Enforcing a time limit for each individual makes it quite stressful...

<added>Funny that in the FAQ, they're still listing the errors that we found in last years version... </added>

Not sure how good that is compared to other WW members. But above the national average nonetheless. Not quite mensa though. Maybe I should eat more fish and drink less beer(above the recommened weekly limit apparently :( )

What has baby weight got to do with IQ? bigger brighter?

I just wish I'd put my age in as over 70 - I would've had a higher score than the person they phoned with the highest IQ on the web. Not sure I could've pulled off sounding like I was over 70 though! ;)

Looking at the national results divided using wage; :)

non-earner - 107

below £20,000 - 104

£20,000 - £30,000 - 101

£30,001 - £50,000 - 99

£50,000 plus - 93

The results show that the people with the highest IQ in the UK are

1. Male

2. were over 8.5 lbs at birth

3. drink more than the recommended amount

4. Listen to classical music

5. Live in Londonderry

6. Do not earn any money

I (probably) only fail on one of those counts

well, my language is alright, not a bad memory and pretty logical - but why the hell do they always have to put hard sums in these tests?

Thats what calculators are for!

Hooray, my beer drinking is vindicated! I think a bit of alcohol helps to lubricate vital areas of the brain.

Big babies are going to be clever when they grow up, unless they come from Aberystwyth, listen to pop music and are female non drinkers.

All a bit of fun really. IQ is just a part of intelligence and what makes us human.

I feel sorry for all the clever West Brom fans :)
(Non British readers, say "huh?")

This test is rubbish lol. I got 103.

The last IQ test I did I get 137 so go figure. That last one btw was a Mensa test :)

I got the wrong answer a few times as well because I pressed the wrong button cos time was running out and I got over excited :P

Mensa: 154

This test: 130

But then I blame it on the fact that I am no native english speaker. Makes those words questions a hell (I mostly don't even know what those vegetables are, let alone can figure out what doesn't belong).

But I think I get a 10 point bonus because of the language difference. My native language is Texan, English is my second language.

Also, add 5 points because I hadn't had my morning coffee

I am :P

There is a great difference between the tests done there and real life. For example the English and Mathematical test are meaningless to me.

The perception test is probably the most important one to me and I got full marks for it so thats fine with me.

IQ tests based on relevance of what you know and what you need to know would work a hell of a lot better I think.

Nah, its just that I don't want anyone to know that I live in Londonderry (or Derry if you are not employed by the BBC) ;)

I don't get it....is it backwards compatible, because I've got Flash 6 installed and it doesn't run or do anything.
