Very cool Honda ad

You need flash 6 to make this go, but this is the coolest ad I think I've seen. All of the 'pieces' of this puzzle are parts off a honda.

Isn't it cool when things just ... work? [home.attbi.com]

According to some news article I read about this commercial it was completely genuine (i.e. no computer graphics or camera trickery) and took over 100 takes to make work.

There is one edit in the whole thing, because the entire set would not fit in one studio.

Yes it's real 403 takes, no computer graphic what so ever.

That is the most ingenious TV ad I've ever seen. :)

I had to watch it twice it's so amazing. Definately award winning work.

This is really cool. But the true test if this is a successful advertisement will be to ask a person the day after they watch it what car it was advertising. Whenever somebody ask me "did you see that commercial where..." I always ask them what product it was selling more than half the time they can't remember.

Awesome ad.. Graphically

atadams,
True. They emphasized on all functions that a Honda have but I don't think it as a successful ad for Honda. The first car you think on when seeing those functions is not Honda. Cool marketing ad though..

Yep, its cool...but some of the physics looked a little off to me...probably a combination of many different attempts.

Yeah I remember when this came on the telly about 10 days ago and I was chatting with my mum and dad about something. As soon as it came on I knew what was going to happen and everything just fell silent. I didn't know there wasn't any computer manipulation and I value it all the more for finding out.

I just want to know how they got that muffler to roll that many times!

Items such as the wheels (rolling uphill!) and the exhaust were carefully weighted so that once knocked ever-so-slightly, they'd roll the appropriate distance. There's an in-depth article here [portal.telegraph.co.uk]

If you're in the UK, Honda will actually send you a free DVD or VHS copy of the advert - the DVD one includes some extras including 'the making of' and some of the ideas that didn't make it to the final version, such as the exploding petrol tank that I'd have liked them to include!;)

Number to call is 0845 200 8000, between 9am and 6pm.

The free DVD is being given away in todays (Saturdays) Guardian. I've just finished watching the different sections and it makes an interesting view.

"This ad is most definitely a nod to the filmmakers Peter Fischli and David Weiss. Their 1987 film, "The Way Things Go" (aka "Der Lauf Der Dinge") is a 30-minute- long showing of a contraption they built out of household items."

I had to watch this film in my sculpture class. It is pretty amazing, involves numerous rolling things, FIRE! and foam. You guys should check it out if you enjoyed the commercial.
