Right message forum or not?

Anyway, I have just paid €8 (euros) to send a fax to the USA from Spain...then someone told me I can use my pc as a fax machine?

Having searched on Google I see there are various software downloads available!

Any recommendations people?

RingCentral.com has a few products that may do the trick. I have used Winfax in the past. WinXP has a simple fax tool built in. All depends on the complexity of your needs and whether your modem also handles fax.

Faxmaker is a brilliant program.

Quite good though I think and a pain in the butt to setup but it maybe worth you looking.

It works with microsoft exchange and if you have the right modem can automatically forward the fax to an individual user via e-mail. Very nifty.

I've been using WinFax Pro which seems to work with just about any application. You can fax directly from the application (using WinFax as one of the printer options), or use it with a scanner.

It seems to me I've seen cheap copies of older versions on the software sites that advertise in the back of PC Magazine... I think I've seen it as cheap as $35. Searching <winfax pro software> on Google, I see it advertised even cheaper.

I also use WinFax Pro and am very happy with it. It is the best fax program I ever used.

We use VSI-Fax and it's been very reliable. It's got some cool admin tools too.

Just out of curiosity, can these fax programs be used to recieve faxes on a cable modem rather than a dial up connection?

Thank you all for the information. I will certainly have a look at all formats.

Oh yes, one other thought (having seen the mail from lorax) I am using adsl - are these systems compatible with this?

there are several online services out there that provide excellent faxing for a small fee.

As for a fax for your computer, i used to use excellect shareware faxe software that i cannot remmeber the name of now... Anyways, instead of it being a stand alone program, the fax software acted like a printer driver.. so you can fax from any program on yer 'puter.

I used it alot when i was looking for a job and sending out resume's
