it happened like this

in 6th Form we had a computer studies class of 8 Davids and a Janet...obviously this was a bit of a problem so the teacher suggested we use nicknames...being the 70s we chose our nicknames from Monty Python...after an abortive week of being 8 Bruces and a Sheila I ended up being Eric the Halibut (as in I want a fish license)

the following year I went to University...on my landing in teh hall of residence were 4 Davids (and a Trevor, a John, a Shashi and a Harvey)...so I stuck with Eric
