not sure what to make of this, but let me explain.

about 15 minutes ago followed a link from an ecommerce site to the site of their designer, and was greeted by what appears to be a hacked page.

site visited: [tmlewin.co.uk...]
link visited: [fptech.co.uk...]

anyway then went to google to do some investigation, and found over 133 sites which seem to have been hijacked in 1 shape or another.

anyway this link below shall explain things a bit clearer:

[google.com...]

rest assured either I am missing something, or all these sites have been hacked.

Umm..they appear to have had a good go at both UK and Italian sites. Presumably these were the easiest to hack, but somebody has a lot of spare time on their hands!

Hmmm...does this disprove the Google duplicate penalty/dropping theory?

From a brief check, it looks like all the sites hacked are running Apache 1.3 (like Webmasterworld is too :). Anyone know if this a new security hole or an old one that the server admin's just haven't patched for?

I remember some guy called.. rafa or something doing something similar to this last year, wasnt it so many 00's of sites in a minute or two. Using script of some sort to make the changes, as i recall it was only minor change to each site?

Vague i know, but if anyon can remember properly it would help?

[vnunet.com...] - got it now, this is probably not related to recent hacks, but interesting all the same.

Lets not forget it's only 156 sites that have a PR high enough to have been crawled by Freshbot. I wonder what the true number stands at? And why oh why aren't sysadmins' on top of this already? If one of my sites was up there long enough to be spidered by fresh, put into google, and then still showing the hacked page when someone clicked on it, I'd want shooting.

Any idea when this hack first started?
