Hi,

Does any one know of a Firewire to USB adapter?
I have just got a Ipod and only have USB!

Instead of buying firewire cards for my PCs, is there an adapter?

Hi Condor12,

Yes they exist. Simple cables with 2 different plugs at each ends. They range from 10 to 20 $ US a piece. Cards sell for about 40 $ to 50 $.

I use to support my local shop. I get those cheaper and faster on the street. I dont have any manufacturer to recommend, since my box has Firewire.

But you can easily find them here [google.com]. ;)

You probably already know this, but the throughput on the most common version of USB currently available, 1.1, is quite a bit lower than Firewire/IEEE 1394: 12Mb/s (1.5MB/s) vs. 100-400 Mb/s (12.5-50MB/s). It might take some time to fill that iPod.

How about just buying a FireWire card? You can typically buy one for $15 shipped for USA to USA that includes a cable. All you need is a free PCI slot.

Know that there are two types of connection for FireWire 6-pin (power from port, found on Macs) and 4-pin (i.Link) which are the smaller ports. Make sure you get the correct cable type whether you buy a PCI card or adapter.

Thanks everyone,

I eventually took sun818's advice and bought cards for work and home, only £25 each,so I'm happy :)

Thanks again.
