best type of rechargeable batteries?

ok, Ive decided to finally get rechargeable batteries for everything that I can. Camera, remotes, MP3 player, etc. What's the best type to get? From what I know, which isn't much, Nicad seems to be? And where can I get a good deal on them? Thanks!
