Offering Free Demos not a good idea when your product shows up on CNN

Earthviewer.com no longer offering trial offer.

I saw this neat software that gives high resolution mapping of the earth down to 10 meter accuracy on CNN. CNN was giving earthviewer.com the credit for these images.

I checked out the website and sure enough they were offering a free 14 day trial for Nvidea Graphic Card users.

So I drove to work, to borrow an Nvidia Graphics card, drove home, installed the card, and proceeded to go to earthviewer to try my trial offer.

Guess what, they are temporary discontinuing it, for the time being.

I guess when you have a nifty product, and it gets splashed all over CNN. It has a tendancy to overwelm the servers.

Has anybody tried this package. Our the pictures as good as the ones shown on CNN, or has CNN done some post processing and image inlayment in the 3D maps.

I have done the trial back in September and was very impressed. I had just paid for a subscription for the viewer a few weeks ago when they were having a deal, like $10.00 a month. It looks exactly the same, there are some options. I have the nVidea version and it is good enough. You can give me you address and I can look at your house!

It takes images and combines them with USGS Topographic data and merges them into a 3D globe. A high speed connection is a plus for when the images load. It had so much traffic the other day mine would not work but it gave me the option to use what was in my memory and it still worked fine for those places I had already been to, yes one of them was Iraq. The user interface could be improved but it is still fun. Keep trying! You'll be suprised what you can see!
