Is SSL safe?

Czech security researchers this week claimed to have uncovered weaknesses in SSL that might permit crackers to decypher transmissions over supposedly secure links.

Similar ish paper on SSl vulnerabilities, i love all this stuff, but it makes me very paranoid. lol!

anything that one man can invent another man can uninvent too. i would say that ssl is about as safe as anything can be.

SSL isn't based on _highly_ secure technologies. It's based on technology that was intended to be more expensive to crack than stealing one credit card or bank account number would be worth; while still being "convenient enough for two strangers to establish a connection with."

If you're transmitting your corporate data en bloc over the internet, then you definitely need to use something stronger...but in that case you aren't dealing with strangers, and you can require your agents to configure the encryption regime of your choice.
