well, the sledding season is winding down so I thought I would drop in for a last update and wrap up.

---------------------------
dogboy's 6th (and final) race of this season: Ashton, Idaho

well, it wasn't pretty.... but we came in 3rd overall out of the seventeen, 8 dog teams in Ashton, running 68 miles (34 miles 2 days in a row) in 6 hours 24 minutes and 10 seconds.... about 12 mins off the 1st and 2nd place times ...but only 36 seconds away from the guy in 4th. Trail conditions sucked the first day (I came in 5th) but faster and harder on the final day (I came in 2nd.)

So for the year, that was three 3rd place finishes and three wins (including a new track record in Glenwood Springs, CO in the Open Class) ... and I was really pleased with that. It seems like it has taken me years to get here.... and...uh.... it did:)

...here are the old race links for those who missed them

race 1 : [webmasterworld.com...]
race 2 : [webmasterworld.com...]
race 3 : [webmasterworld.com...]
race 4 : [webmasterworld.com...]
race 5 : [webmasterworld.com...]

---------------------------
I can hear it now... ‘the mother and puppies are fine, but the father is dead’

....hheehhehe don’t worry.... it’s ok, he has been dead for more than 10 years now! That’s right.... he was born in 1977 and made some valuable ‘donations’ after winning a few world championship races.... and if all goes right, the procedure will happen late next week, and 63 days later... PUPPIES! The mother is out of my last litter, and now at almost 2 years old she is also my main race leader... pretty Ginger dog.... a favorite among favorites, mother of my future:) Cross your fingers.

----------------------------
Gypsy back in harness after injury... and is hot to trot!

remember Gypsy? (http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum9/4131.htm ) She got back running right after the Ashton Race... no problems at all, 100% fine.... and she is *also* coming into ‘season’ ...and if all goes right with her A.I., that will hopefully give me enough puppies between her litter and Ginger’s (plus big dogs) to come up with a competitive 16 dog team 2 years from now. I hope I know what I’m doing:)

----------------------------
After a bunch of phone calls and emails, I think I got a dog food sponsor!

I can’t tell you who, and you probably haven't heard of them, but they are pretty big in the sled dog world and I like and use their food already. I already get about a third off retail so I think the next step is for them to either sell it to me for almost nothing, or just give it to me. I have a meeting in April with the regional rep in charge of sponsorships. He said today they would ’like to work with me’ but purposely avoided any further discussion about *what* the possibilities were, just that there were some. And that would help a bunch... especially with puppies coming.

----------------------------

.... well that’s it for now...

How exciting! A full-fledged breeding program! Best of luck with that... hope your girls throw all their best traits (like fast healing in Gypsy's case).

I'll assume your mystery sponsor isn't the guy up here who sells frozen whole ground beaver as dog food, eh? ;) I got a couple ideas, but you already said you wouldn't tell... good luck with that. Once you've got two new litters chewing on everything in site, you'll need the food. hehehe.

dogboy,
Great to hear Gypsy is alright.
Hey, I'm getting a dog soon, whoohoo! :) I just wondered whether you have any favourite sites on the web that cover EVERYTHING about dogs? I've already found all the stuff about my breed (rat terrier) but I need ALL kinds of general info too. There are too many commercial sites offering "information" but at the bottom of each page there's something they want to sell you...

I do enjoy dogboy's updates!

>>and made some valuable ‘donations’ after winning a few world championship races<<

um, there is just one daddy for all these puppies? And his donations are out back somewhere frozen in the snow?

beaver BTW is supposedly extremely palatable to dogs:)

dog sites.... no, most I visit are about sled dogs or equipment ...sorry

yeah.... the old boy was named 'Bruce' a world champion sprint dog leader who was 1/8 registered Saluki and 7/8 Alaskan Husky. He was the father of one of the most well known race leaders in sled dog world,'Pluto', and grandfather to a multiple time Iditarod champ's main leader, 'Elmer'. I don't know if will be a good idea to have 2 litters by the same father .... ask me in 63+ days:) .....but I'm thinking that the resulting pups will be a uniform bunch which is an important factor of how team functions as a unit. Also, from what I understand, these A.I. breedings typically don't result in large litters.... so I'm hoping to end up with 8 that can run in the main team 2 years from now

A sticky MALE?! Oh my God! Should I roll him in feathers and let him run down the main street?!
Thanks o0_cops_0o, I've already replied.
