Amazon patents online discussions...

This may well go the way of the recent hyperlink patent fiasco...

Did anybody ever try to apply for a patent which patents the patent system?

I have a feeling that it will go the same was as British Telecom claiming to have a patent on Hyperlinks. I believe that this did not stand up in court.

This is a patent for a "Customer Product Reviews" system, not forums.

In one aspect of the present invention, the discussion system starts a discussion relating to an item.

In another aspect of the present invention, the discussion system allows a user to join a discussion relating to an item.

In yet another aspect of the present invention, the discussion system provides a method and system for adding an item to a discussion relating to another item.

Amazon isn't exactly the only site to utilise these techniques.

no idea, but i've patented "Replying to a message on message boards and forums" so you owe me $20 for a license to reply to messages.

Good luck trying to enforce that in a German Court. Since I am a nice guy here´s the address of the court you would need to file your claim with:

Amtsgericht Charlottenburg
Amtsgerichtsplatz 1
14057 Berlin-Charlottenburg

Here is a picture [berlin.de] of the building so you will find it when you are required to appear personally ;)

HTH Andreas

I love it when people sue me and I just know I´m going to win ;)
