I have just upgraded from win 98 to XP. Can anyone tell me:
- Does Telnet come with XP, where is it?
- Do I need Norton system tools or is XPs good enough? (I have Norton anti-virus updates).

For Telnet, either use Hyperterminal (Start menu -> All programs -> Accessories -> Communications -> HyperTerminal), and use TCP/IP (Winsock).

The alternative is to do start -> run and then type telnet <hostname>.

As for system tools - I use WinXP's for defragging and disk maintenance, and use a third party virus checker, as Windows XP has no built-in virus protection by default.

To open HyperTerminal, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to Communications, and then click HyperTerminal.

""If you use NTLM authentication, Telnet Client uses the Windows XP security context for authentication, and the user is not prompted for a user name and password. The user name and password are encrypted.

Attempts to log on to the Telnet server using NTLM authentication will fail if the password option is set at User Must Change Password at Next Log on. To log on successfully, you must log on to the server directly, change your password, and then log on through Telnet. "
