Laptop Power on a Plane Advice

I'm off, once again, on my month long trip to the USA in a few weeks time with Delta Airways. I want to use my laptop on the flight (which is on a 777) and they recommend the "PowerXtender™ Adapter" for in-flight use to feed the juice to the laptop.

However, I'm a cheapskate so I'm after a compatible device instead. Does anyone have any experience or advice as to what power adaptor is best, cheapest and available to me in the UK? I own a little old, but still excellent, HP Omnibook 6000.

If you're a cheapskate, why are you flying first class? Last I checked, the laptop outlets weren't available in coach... (I got all excited about the same thing last year when I flew to London... until I realized they didn't offer all the amenities for the 'common folk' hehehe)

Delta have, very kindly, plopped them all in the pleb class on the 777 too :)

Ack. Couldn't have done it before my trip, could they? hehe.

Well... at least I know they'll be there for me next time I hop across the pond. :)

As for the adapters, I never did find anything but the PowerXtender brand... and I looked all over before I realized I couldn't even use it.

Found a somewhat dated listing of airlines offering in-flight laptop power at [rentcomputers.com...] .

I have seen "laptop in-flight adaptor cable" listings as cheap as $10; these are dongles or adapters which attach to an auto cigarette lighter cable, which you'd have to buy separately. EmPower has one such for $19.95 at Magellans.

Dell lists a universal auto/air Targus adapter for $100, but I worry somewhat about buying a product whose description reads "users... requiring voltage higher than 70 watts..."

Anyway, good luck. Googling for 'airline laptop power adapter' found me 3,580 results.
