Now I am not much of a drinker, but I just had a near spiritual experience with a glass of Ledaig (from the Isle of Mull).

So, my top 5, in random order:

Ardbeg
Ledaig
Laphroaig
Lagavullin
Talisker

Anyone care to point me in the direction of one that matches these?

Talisker, a strong smokey single malt. I drink it neat (no ice or water) and love it. A milder single malt would be The Macallan. Lovely flavor for those just starting out with single malts. I used to like Laphroig - but found I only liked it if I could find/buy the cask conditioned version. I found Lagavullin too weak for my liking but then, I'm a fan of the stronger flavored singles.

Have not tasted the others on your list.

I went on trip round the Talisker distillery about 20 years ago, and it has been a favourite ever since.

I am not a big fan of the Speyside style malts, the smokey peat-flavoured stuff from the Isles is more my taste.

If you like Talisker, you will also like Ardbeg and Ledaig - they have a similar 'in yer face' style:)

My five -

Laphroaig
Laphroaig
Laphroaig
Laphroaig
Laphroaig

But with a dash of water to release the flavour. Otherwise it numbs the taste buds.
