Search 1,326,920,000 web pages

can we tell our kids oneday
"I remember when Google only had a billion pages, not like the six billion you have now" :)

Just as a teaser, if your child has the same genes as yourself, chances are it will call you a late follower ;)

well if you are gonna "cheat" and use wayback :)

probably oldest page of the backrub project (before being renamed to Google)
[web.archive.org...]

this one is probably the oldest true Google reference in wayback from Dec 10, 1997
[web.archive.org...]

and this wayback link is really funny/interesting:
Wonder where your search runs? Here are the machines:
[web.archive.org...]

this gem is NOT to be missed:
[web.archive.org...]
compare his photo then to:
[google.com...]

Actually my first internet access was via a gateway to a fidonet bbs :)
Google was just a dream then, the www hadn't been invented yet!

A little OT, but now I think I know where the colors in the Google Logo come from. Take a look at the lego blocks in those pics. Colors look familiar? ;)

[web.archive.org...]

There was a recent thread where someone was wondering if there was any significance to the colors in the Google Logo. I wonder if the Lego blocks are just a coincidence.

well the colors are a chicken and egg issue (unless we get to ask him one day)

those colors appear around the backrub project too so its possible
the color choices were made before it was renamed to Google

the colors are also nice non-dithering colors which would be a smart choice
for the many 640x480x16 color monitors still in use back then... I would bet they
greyscale nicely as well! :)

I believe the "modern" palette of google colors are
#0039b6 g
#c41200 o
#f3c518 o
#0039b6 g
#30a72f l
#c41200 e

Just found something even older on Google about Larry Page (its founder).

Check out this message out from the very beginning of 1996 regarding his development of a Java search engine!

And where is the big red 'start dance' button? :)
