But I was delighted. The cogs of the money machine had begin to turn.

I was soooo excited i showed it to all my friends...everyone were amazed that their buddy is also a dotcom hero but hey in a tiny scale :)
check for $750.00
I was soo stoked that I actually was "in business" in the end, I only marginally profited since I was such a nice guy that that price included total design, e-mails, hosting for 2 years, domain reg for two years, driving time, presentation costs.... the list goes on and on...
it was still nice to get that check.
I also remember the first check I got for my affiliate sites. I think it was around $300 or so for a month. It has only been uphill since then.
My first WWW check (we spell it "cheque")
Same here, results from a British Empire ... :)
My 1st check is only $17 something! The bank took some and left only a bit for me. But the feeling is fantastic.
The company who give me the check is a banners pay per click advertising company like valueclick. It is called EADS (Electronic Advertising). But now when you visit eads.com it is 'European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company'. Go Bankrup? I think so. Because I trust this EADS for paying all my tiny checks for a few month, so I decide to hold the payment until it reach 100. So when I collects until $60+ for 3 months, my account is canceled! Claiming that I cheat because there are 5 days when the traffic is high and so the click through is high! Wow ...
Ever heard of other same kind of advertising company? There is one called safe-audit.com which also out of business now. And another pay?nickel.com or something (forget forget ...) ohhh and another one which is still alive, but without advertisers :) ClickAgents.com which has been acquire by valueclick.
Revenue from pay per click are history for me, so as for many people. The '.com bubble' burst ... last time when we say pay per click, they pay us, but now when we speak on it, WE PAY (overture, google adwords, looksmart ...)
--> The trend is towards Pay Per Performance --> --> -->
No Perfomance --> No $$$$$ :(
With Performance --> LOTS OF $$$$ :)
I was working part-time for a consulting firm in mid 1999 during my last year of college. My time was worth $400/hour. For my first project, I ended up putting in about 6 hours. The company got the check, and they paid me $13/hour. After working 20 hours/week, my first pay check was just under $200...at the time, it was wonderful as my friends from school were getting right around $10/hour for their internships:)
