I did get a couple of unexpected gifts from someone who's very special to me, so that meant a lot. Those gifts were from the heart, a little different from the usual. It's not every day a woman gets a CD with Linux, it's very heartwarming. It's nice to be loved.
My inlaws gave myself and my wife and kids an all inclusive, ten day trip to Florida, five of those days to be spent at Disney World. Also 4 round trip plane tickets to get there and back. Hotel accomodations on the Disney Property... resort to be determined, but it looks like it's going to be "port orleans"
They were so cool about it. They gave us in order, matching mickey mouse T-shirts... I was like... ok... not a huge mickey mouse fan or a matching shirt fan but it's cool, it's the thought that counts. Next was a card with a couple hundered... "Disney Dollars" We were planning and saving for a vacation to florida for our fifth anniversery later next year, so I thought, cool... little pocket money.
Next comes a small box for each of us... four 5 day park hopper passes. Woohoo! now we're getting somewhere!
The final box is opened, it contains an hand written "Coupon" Good for 4 airfares, and hotel stay redeemable middle of October 2003!
THEY JUST SENT US TO DISNEY WORLD! My wife broke down and cryed, jumped up and hugged her mom and dad...
There is NO place in the World my Wife enjoys more than disney world, and I kinda like it myself!;) It is a real obsession.
We are a young couple, I am working very hard trying to run a very small business, and she is a housekeeping manager at a hotel, so we are not from extravagant means so our trip was going to take alot of real sacrifice... not really any more!
Just wanted to share the tale of the most awesome gift I have ever recieved short of my Wife and two beautiful daughters.
I have to say i was really smiling when i read mat_bastian's story about his xmas prezzie, its cool that somone got something really good and really realy appreciates it. Its good to hear someone who is genuenly greatful. Hope it all goes well for mr & mrs mat_bastian and family at disney when you go :)
to me it's been more about giving than receiving anyway - it's so fulfilling to see the faces on people when they open up an unexpected present... that alone is a gift in itself that no one can match.

Note I am not saying the other gifts suck. They were nice but you cant beat something someone made.
She's watching over your shoulder, isn't she?
:)
My domains are no longer running off of an old Maxtor HD that doesn't get backed up be cause the tape drive is on the floppy controller and the floppy controller died two years ago. (On the motherboard, so I can't easily replace it.)
I think it helped that Santa gets his e-mail from the machine in question. Santa == Dad, and he wants a static IP for the next gift giving occasion so that he can host mx2.our-family.org. Dad barely has a web page, but he knows he wants redundant e-mail :)
