The ski hills are opening!

I bought a season's pass and was wondering if it would ever open, would it pay off, would there ever be snow, and now, it is open.

What about your area?

Not that I ski, but it looks like we'll be dragging the snow thrower out of the garage to clear the driveway this weekend.

Good thing too. The last snowfall was so old, everything was nasty and dirty and icy. Nice fresh coat of white stuff, and it's back to wonderland! :)

Picked up the pass (and uniform) today too - not that much natural snow but cold enough for snowmaking. Most stuff open (apart from cross-country trails).

Edit: spoke to ski instructor friends in BC tonight who said Whistler only had snow until halfway down...

We got a light dusting a couple nights ago but still nothing. The local ski resorts just opened today but they still need more snow.

Most mountains here have a least a 30' base. We have a few with 40-45' bases.

Looks a little overcast to day but should be a nice 32 later on, clear blue skies!

Message from a rider in cold and rainy London: you're all a bunch of %^$%^£$! ;)

In London there are only two seasons: summer and autumn...

Our slopes have been open since Thanksgiving! :)

While I do some downhill, I'd much rather strap on a pair of snowshoes and trek into the woods. The snow keeps most of the looneys out so the woods are peaceful at this time of year.

No snow in Scotland yet, but we are in a cold snap, so fingers crossed.

Skiing in Scotland is pretty hit and miss. We don't get snow as such, just frozen mud! But hey, its slidey enough.

I have two pairs of skis. One set for Scotland and one set for abroad. :)

Resorts around here have been open for a month already and are in full operation with edge to edge coverage and a decent base.

It looks like the "New Years thaw" is in process at least for a few days but that shouldn't cause too much damage.

The season pass should pay off this year.

>>New Years thaw

Yeah, it hit us just yesterday. That'll put a damper on one of the season's biggest weeks if it doesn't turn around in the next few days!

If I had a snow board I could be going down the slopes of sand dunes here in the Sinai desert! :) But we do get snow on Mount Moses sometimes...
