Just had a salesman from 'Search Solutions' on the phone -

Salesman "ive noticed that your website mydomain.com does not rank very well on search engines"
me "which Search Engine?"
Salesman "google"
me "which search term?"
Salesman "competitive keyword"
me "but where 3rd for that term"
Salesman "eh uh oh OH...well we could get you in the top 2 for various search terms for the top 25 search engines"
me "I could do that myself using Overture"
Salesman "no not just Overture but the top 25 search engines"
me "your wasting your time....bye"

Its entirly possible that i had a very similar conversation recently with the afore mention company, as we both in the UK, I feel this is no coincedence. That company quite possibly have rung Google and told them that they do not list very well in some major search engines LOL :)

i had that happen to me yesterday.
Salesguy: we noticed that you are ranked very poorly on Google, which is the #1 search engine in the world today..
me: [duhh..] really? how's that?
Salesguy: if someone searches for your company name he'll never find you.
me: you don't say? why don't you go into Google now and check? [we are on the 1st page]
Salesguy: err.. uhm.. yeah well if they search for any word describing your business they'll never ever find you. what business you in?
me: think i can manage, thank you.
Salesguy: so, should i arrange a free meeting with one of our 'experts'?
me: uh, that won't be necessary. bye..

They dont seem to do very well for there own name! I cant see them anywhere :)
