"I confess this sheepishly because I used to poke fun at my parents' money-saving habits: the washing and reuse of plastic bags and plastic "throwaway" plates, the boycott of all brand-name appliances in favor of "Gold Star" or "Blue Star" or whatever it was. No item in our home was tossed out before its time, and that time never did come.
And there was that quest I remember vividly from road trips for the perfectly priced motel."
