Well thats the sound that would drive me to near insanity as the blood pressure rises. Whats yours?
"Niagara Falls" - Slowly I turn, step by step, inch by inch ... ARRRRGGGGHHHH!
Children learning to play musical instruments.
I don't know which is worse: when she starts trying to sing some crappy pop song, over-emoting everything, and trying to warble her voice as though she knew what "vibrato" meant, or when she tries to make up her own song... which always has an awful, meandering non-melody, words that make very little sense, and it just keeps going, and going, and going, and...
It's really hard to find a polite way to ask her to stop. ;) Somehow, "please go sing in your room, quietly, with the door closed" just doesn't seem like something you ought to say when you want to encourage a child's self-esteem and creativity.
I think I'll go and stuff some hardening clay in those exhaust pipes, that will fix em!
P.S. Harley's at 0500 in the morning. I have nothing against Harley's, but those startups at early morning hours are annoying! ;)
It's bad enough that my cue to realise I have a migraine on the way is no longer that perfectly fresh milk smells terrible to me, or dots of light flashing before my eyes.... but that I have an overwhelming desire to smack Brendan upside his loud-breathing head.
I just stopped being polite with her (after putting up with it for a couple of years) and told her that she had a perfectly good (and well insulated) bedroom which was going to waste. :)
yes, small dogs barking are really annyoing too..
not to mention when windows freezes and you move your mouse and you hear this fast beep from pc speaker..
I also hate the sound of electrical equipment at night, particulary speakers which haven't been turned off and those transformers attached to the power cord of so many things. I turn my computer stuff off at the wall every night because I can hear it from the next room otherwise. One of my neighbours has air conditioning or a pool filter or something that turns on for an hour at 12 am to 1 am in the summer. It not only keeps me awake but wakes me up, even though my boyfriend can't even hear it. But then I also sleep with ear plugs most nights (he snores).
However I do have a clicky keyboard. Having stiffish keys which you need to push down is good for your hands and actually prevents OOS (Occupational Overuse Syndrome). It's no coincidence that OOS became a problem when we stopped using manual typewriters. Those quiet keyboards are badly designed from a physiological point of view because they offer no resistance and give no cushioning of the impact of your fingers. If I swap back to the quiet keyboard which came with my computer, after a day my fingertips are numb from the impact and my arms and shoulders totally on fire. Keyboards should be a little clicky.
When I was working in a fast food restaurant, a customer came in with two young boys, about 4 years old. While he came up to the counter to order, the two boys sat down at one of the tables and just started screaming as loud as they possibly could. Needless to say, other customers that were walking in the door at that time turned right around and left. At least they had that option.
