Okay, here goes..

The better half (SlyGal) is celebrating her birthday on Sunday. I have managed to wrangle up a few ideas for gifts and I'm also treating her to a nice dinner.

..but I need more!

So, please help me out. Is there anything "original" left? What gifts have you given, that were well received? What's the best gift you have ever received? What do you get the woman, who has everything (and I mean everything!)

I'm pulling my hair out over here. I'm planning on doing a little shopping over my lunch hour, which is in about 3 hours!

Help!

Weird, I'm just writing a page on 'unique gifts' ;)

Try the international star registry - $48 and name a star after her ;-) How cool is that?

this worked for me:

1) buy a cheap and tacky present (perfume etc)
2) present this as the gift
3) take her to a really good, romantic restaurant
4) between the main course and dessert present a really nice gift

this has a great romantic element of surprise which she will appreciate.

i must admit that it was hard for me to pretend the tacky present was for real and not to giver her the real one immediately!

SlyGuy: "What do you get the woman, who has everything (and I mean everything!)"

aside from Penicillin?

time...I find that's the one thing that always is well received...hire a cleaner and a cook for the weekend...or spend the weekend in a hotel...clear the decks for a few days and be in the same place at the same time...as Oranger put it:

"Let's go away just for a day
And just do nothing else"

My idea?
You don't need more. People are quite happy to have their birthdays remembered.

You would be surprised at how far a clutch of flowers will go. Flowers live on for days, and can even be dried. Have you ever received flowers? I have, and it's a sweet feeling. Flowers and dinner? That's a home run.

I wouldn't overdo it. Just buy her something she has been wanting. Everybody looks at something at times and says "I'd sure like to have one of those."

A cool set of hand crafted earrings from the museum gift shop always works.

"Let's go away just for a day
And just do nothing else"

Sounds awfully close to John Lennon in "(Just like) Starting Over"

Don't know where you are in the world but from here (london) a Paris weekend city break always seems to work.

What is her most favourite thing to do in the whole world? (Keep it clean now!)

My boyfriend knows me so well, that in times of stress (or anytime for that matter) my favourite thing to do is go snorkelling or diving and just clear my head. I love to watch the fish swim by.

We were in Marina Del Ray, California (on his boat) and it was March ... too cold for me to go in the water. So he planned a trip to the Monteray Bay Aquarium for the weekend.

I loved it ... and him for giving me such a thoughful gift. The drive up and back was spectacular and we had a wonderful time in Monteray. The villa was fabulous and the meals were beyond out of this world.

For the woman who has everything, be as thoughful as you can and do something together which she truly loves.

{added} I forgot to mention that I was blown away by the aquarium. We went there both days and stayed about 5 hours each day!

Shouldn't step 3 be:

#3 Recieve smack round the head with as much dignity as possible?

i'm lucky because my wife is really sweet and appreciated the gesture for what it was rather than its value. as a result she was really bowled over when i presented her with an expensive ring.

i was in credit for brownie points for weeks and weeks!

you must have had relationships with incredibly kind and gentle women...if I'd tried that with any of my gfs then step 3 would be several hours of mild sarcasm...I'd prefer a smack round the head any day

Love Coupons.

Make them up based on what she'd really like. Allow her to redeem them (turn them into you) anytime she'd like. Items could include backrubs, romantic dinner for two, a cruise, babysitting the kids while she has a girl's night out, cleaning her car, a guaranteed 4 hour block of time of doing nothing.

I you have time, go somewhere with her. Spend time with her. Getting pampered and massaged at the Spa is a gift you can share.

My suggestion:

Be at her beck and call all day. Drop what you're doing and run errands for her at her slightest whim.

Nothing makes me melt more than when someone will drop what they're doing to help me without me having to ask.

Me: "Gee, I was going to make cookies but I don't have eggs."
Him: "Be right back with your eggs."
Me: *melt*

Good luck! :)

I couldn't resist so I asked Ask.com:

"What do you get the woman, who has everything?"

The answer:

"A Woman's Guide to Cigar Smoking : Everything You Need to Know to Be the Ultimate Cigar Aficionada"

Somehow I don't think that's the best answer, but what do you expect when ask a guy (jeeves) what a woman wants?

Confirm she still has what you have given her before, Your never ending love and attention.

Clearing the decks and making dinner for her (including you doing the cleanup) sounds good.

That is if you can cook ;)

That is if you can cook

Every man should learn to cook! You'd be surprized what a little spinach fettucini with sun-dried tomatoes and olive oil from Tuscany, a wilted spinach salad topped with pancetta and olives, finished with a touch of Parmigianna Reggiano, served with homemade italian bread turned into bruchetta for an app and a nice bottle of Chianti from the vineyards below Montepulciano can do for you! But then I'd prefer to keep the competition to a minimum. ;)

Every man should learn to cook!

Went to France in August and attended 3 days of cooking classes. I made sure my 13 old son paid attention :)

Why not cauliflower soup (with nutmeg and wild mushrooms) decorated with olive oil and basil sprigs, braised duck breast with onion jam, potato cakes, steamed vegetables, and a cheese plate and port to finish?

Nice dinner, spa, foot massage, full body massage, nice dinner, cleaning service, hotel/vacation weekend, nice dinner...

Or a big gift certificate for her favorite store, if she likes to shop. Then go out shopping with her, pretend not to be bored, and take her out to a nice dinner afterward (and a nice lunch in the middle).

Or just a spa day and a nice dinner. With massage.

Sly you could always get out the old pen and write her a line or 2 of poetry... (to be accompanied by a completely expensive gift, of course).

:)
