Approaching a postings number threshold

Do you speed up or slow down on posting?

I noticed something strange about my run up to 500 posts (this one). When I saw I was getting near I thought "O.K. I'll post a little more often just to get over it"(and see if my status changes - which I think may be 600-650 rather than 500).

However, as I got closer to 500 I found myself slowing down. It got to the point where I was kind of waiting for a good thread to post number 500 in.

It's strange the significance that we give to numbers, especially such trivial ones as the numbers of posts on a forum.

Maybe there should be a better stat that we use - such as hours needlessly whittled away.

Hmm...

My posts are stuck on 499! Aaaarghh... Maybe I shouldn't have concerned myself with it.

There is a limit to how many posts you can make in a certain time period. That is to stop people from making a bunch of posts so they can get their number up. I'm not sure what that time period is. Also I don't think posts in Foo count toward that number.

"It's strange the significance that we give to numbers"

Everything I do is about numbers.
Stats are my friends.

If it weren't for numbers, I would still have a 9 to 5.

If it weren't for numbers I'd be doing an A to H...

I like the irony of waiting to post something meaningful in order to mark the reaching of point - only to find that the post doesn't count towards the tally and thus doesn't take the poster to the milestone; there's something almost allegorical about it.

If it weren't for numbers I'd be doing 7 to 10 ...

It is weird that numbers that really don't matter, matter so much.

Did you know that in any given year, the number of threads divided by the number of active members is always equal to

Hmmm, I could have slowed down and posted my 4000th post on the exact day of 4 years being here... but in actual fact I passed the 4000 a few days ago.
