Sounds Good, But What Do I Need to Know?

Got an offer to be included in a newsletter...

We just got an offer to appear as a reference in a quarterly newsletter. The offer appears to be legitimate and it comes from a very big name (think tens of millions of members).

I was wondering if there are any guidelines we should ask them to follow. For example, the standard stuff like:

When will the publication be distributed?
What's the circulation of the newletter?
How will it be distributed email or snail?

But I'm also thinking that we should ask to see a draft of the article - especially the reference or any materials they are using from our website.

I couldn't find anything here (that's one reason for posting in Foo), but I'd appreciate your thoughts.

I know what I think that means, but I'm probably wrong. Can you explain a bit more? No presumptions, please...

1/ Why should they?

2/ If you provide the right reference they'll publish it.

That is confusing. I should have said:

They found some information on our site they want to use in a newsletter. They want our permission to use that information. In exchange, they will state that they found this information on our website.

That's good news all round, and even better - they're asking your permission. As if that were not enough... they'll acknowledge source. Superb!

Give your permission - advise them; tell them what acknowledgement they should give - courteously. They (whoever 'they' might be...) see you as an authority source in this instance - encourage it; they'll probably ask you again in the future...
