Some interesting concepts. However most of the demonstration showed basically file-type icons, which aren't very useful because one PDF icon looks pretty much like another, how one can tell at a glance which document is which escapes me.

I think this would come into its own for image files (there was a short section with photos, which looked quite convincing). I'm more of a command-line person, so my desktop is basically a place for putting a browser, multiple text editor and shell sessions, and don't have much use for the "desktop" metaphor as a place to store files. For sorting through digital photos though, I think this could have something over conventional 2d folders.

Since 9:00 this morning (7 hours ago) I am trying to download the high-res videos from the original site. They got mentioned on Lifehacker and a couple of other blogs last night and their servers suffer from a massive friendly-fire DoS attack...

Did you see the ring the person was wearing in the demo? $$$ - wishful thinking?

Strip the original download path a bit and you get redirected to the guys homepage. You'll see on his portfolio that he has quite an affinity to rap music (or hiphop or whatever they call it these days [it's still rock'n'roll to me]). Thus the outfit and the accessories.
