Do I look 'that' stupid?

Something happens or someone says something, and my thoughts go toward 'Do I really look that stupid?' I had one of those moments today.

Mind you, I probably DO look pretty silly to most folks in this little town, with a turban on my head and my drum swinging from my side, but that isn't the point ;) I was walking along the road, and crossing at an intersection. A fellow in a car at the corner yells out, 'Do you need a ride?'

No Thanks, I'm in no hurry.

So he nods an acknowledgement, then reaches into the back seat. Apparently from a cooler in the back, he hauls out a bottle of beer and waves it in my direction.

Again, no thanks.

Now really, do I look so stupid as to consider getting in a car with a stranger who is driving around drinking beer?

I hope not. Maybe I'm being too harsh. He was, after all, just trying to be nice.

He's just having fun and doesn't know any better. That's one of the good things about life, we're not all alike ;)

The way I read it it seemed he was offering you some beer. If that was the case I wonder if the beer offer was only linked to the lift offer or if it could have been taken up on its own. In the former case it would be worrying, in the latter rather kind. Not sure where you live, but if it's a hot place it is the height of kindness to give cold beer to a stranger. I only wish someone in Malaysia would have the same kindness.

How common is grandpa snatching in your area?

I might have taken the cold beer offer up, maybe made a new friend.

I remember 'way back in the 1960s' (good song title there, but used by The Incredible String Band) I often got strange looks from people at bus stops as I walked by (what's odd about wearing an edwardian frock coat?). Odd thing is most of those who gave the odd looks were elderly people dressed in (rather drab) post war clothes.
Who was the strange one, I wonder?
