Tired of "LOL" yet?

Is anyone else tired of seeing "LOL" on instant messages, emails, forums and everywhere else on the web?

I am getting kind of burned out on it.

We should start something new to replace it on WebmasterWorld, and then tell everyone you heard it here first.

Any ideas?

We know exactly what it means.. and I don't just mean literally.. Laughs Out Loud .. well it is but it's not, it's more subtle than that, there is not really an English equivelant.. at has it's own strength ...

You are so right. The 'geek boy' admin at my workplace has started saying it all the time. I warned him a couple of times but yesterday I had to give him a dead leg and say "LOL at that you wierd child"

I've HEARD it also in real life, ehhh, I mean IRL.
I've even said "lol" out loud a couple of times and had to explain it to several less-internet-savvy people.

They now think I'm a real nerd.

Summary of the many things I have learned from this post.

1. Yes, other people are also sick of the overuse of “LOL”.

2. Many people to this day are still not sure of the true meaning of “LOL”.

3. Never use “LOL” when speaking, unless you want to be considered a geek.

4. It is definitely time to end the use of “LOL”.

I tend to use 'lol' online when someone is trying to be funny and I really cant be bothered to make a decent reply!

So I guess half the time I use it as a shrug off.

Use it enough and people either carry on (at which point they go on ignore) or shut up as they start realising its a one sided conversation!

i tend to use lol or :P for stuff that isnt that funny, if something acutaly has some humorous value to it i'll use lmao or rofl.
