My office used to be at the end of a boring 1 hour commute on an overcrowded train.
Now my office is exactly where I want.
Over the last 7 months while traveling through Southeast Asia, Australia and NZ my office has been a beachside bar, a mountain hut and a seat at 30,000 feet.
Being a webmaster has changed my life beyond my wildest dreams and although I still probably spend too much time online, I am having a great time and really living life to the full.
Being a webmaster has given me the ultimate freedom and I urge anyone who is has the hunger for the same to go for it and never give up on that dream.
I'm captively employed now, and get out of the house 5 times a week which is more than I could say when I was "independent". I think our definitions of independent don't overlap...
Like the original poster I was able to spend over a month travelling, and for a time my office was any internet cafe in whatever town I happened to be in at the time. Not that I spent all day working of course.
However the biggest change derived from being a webmaster has been the ability to purchase my own house, instead of renting.
