Finally, I got a day away from the garage/office over the weekend. On Saturday I rode with a friend to a nearby Barter Fair. Usually I sell my widgets at these things, but this weekend was to be nothing more than some down time.

There is a cover charge at these events for campers and day visitors, a nominal fee. We pulled up the gate and a young girl came over to ask if we were campers or day visitors. From the passenger seat I replied, "We're the drummers". Hey, you could see all of our gear in the back seat, including our drums right on top. Slightly flustered, the girl replied, "Oh, that means you get in for free, right?" No reply from either of us.

She called over an assistant, and they tried to raise someone on the radio; no luck. The assistant then brought over a disclaimer for us to sign, a ruled piece of paper with signatures. There were no terms or conditions, just signatures. We both signed, and went in without any more delay.

"We're the drummers." I've got to try this one again ;-)

BTW, the drumming was awesome.

It was spontaneous. I had been grousing earlier in the day about having to pay to get in, but I never considered not paying. Then I was tempted to ask the girl if they could go ahead and pay us now, but I didn't think my buddy could have kept a straight face.
