What's the meaning of "Foo"?

I can't find the word "Foo" in dictionary, what's meaning for this word? who can tell me? thanks.

I didn't realise it was to do with a technical term. Always assumed it meany 'fooey'. But looking in dictionary.com it says:

<jargon> /foo/ A sample name for absolutely anything,
especially programs and files (especially scratch files).
First on the standard list of metasyntactic variables used
in syntax examples. See also bar, baz, qux, quux,
corge, grault, garply, waldo, fred, plugh,
xyzzy, thud.
