I have no idea of the origin of this quotation. I only know it in Danish. A translation from Danish to English might go like:

May God protect me against my friends. I will deal with my enemies myself.

Does anyone know the origin and a better wording?

A quick look around the internet shows that this saying is usually attributed to Marshall de Villares [google.com] (whose name suggests that the original may be in French), usually in the following form:

God save me from my friends. I can protect myself from my enemies. [google.com]
