Chitika search tab IS allowed even on pages with Google Search on them

Got this answer from AdSense team

I asked for a clarification to AdSense team. They took their time and a few minutes ago I got the answer back. Translating and paraphrasing the answer I received, Chitika search tab available in eMiniMalls is not an additional web search tool, but a tool to search on specific products. This means that eMiniMall's search tab DOES NOT violate AdSense TOS and can be used without any problem.

Try three products on the same page, one after the other. Banner format. Two paragraphs of text above them.

You'll only get paid for the first click the visitor makes but I guarantee you a 20% CTR per visitor.

Is there a seperate forum on webmasterworld where we may discuss Chitika ads?
Isn't it time it was created?

I was thinking about that, but then I realised the Adsense forum is exactly where Chitika needs to be!

Chitika needs the business from cheesed off webmasters. Google needs the lesson in customer service.

Amen Alex! I've been adding Chitika to my pages every spare moment I can find, and so far I'm very happy. Double the EPC vs. Google and the ads are very nice to look at. A classy outfit!

Chitika has just completed their September audit.

I've checked out my numbers and unfortunately the audited earnings are quite a lot lower than the unaudited ones :-(

Do you have a lot of non-us traffic?

Their list of unwanted countries is lengthy and they will audit out clicks from there. These aren't countries considered fraudulent, as far as I can tell its countries their merchants might not deliver to.

So I mostly obtained traffic from the US and Canada.

I'm also expecting multiple clicks to be audited out. I'm pretty sure some people arrive and click on every picture.

Soon we should be getting daily audits. That would be so handy.

My traffic is 95% from US, and my audited revenue is around 30% less than the unaudited ones..

very, very dissapointing.. :( :(

Anyone else has the same experience?

I haven't started adding Chitika to my sites yet, but I believe they are moving away from the clickable product image so as to cut down the "curiosity clicks". This should help tame the audit drop quite a bit.

I do wish they would implement some built in geotargeting like adsense though. If a users IP is from a known "clicks don't count country" I'd prefer that it didn't serve them an ad or displayed an alternate of my choice.

They just finished their September audit now? Sheesh.

I'd be most interested in hearing more results from the audit. I'm holding off on running Chitika's ads until I'm satisfied the company and business model are for real.

I've only been running Chitika for about 3 weeks, but the positive results so far are enough to take notice.

CTR and eCPM
On the sites that I'm running both Adsense and eMiniMalls, my Adsense CTR did not decrease from historic levels. I did pickup additional clicks from eMiniMalls, so my overall page CTR and eCPM increased, which means revenue increased.

Note:My CTR did not decrease when Chitika removed the links on the product images.

EPC
EPC for AdSense and eMiniMalls for my niches are roughly the same.

Ad Inventory
The content on my sites happens to be a very good match for Chitika's inventory. Since I'm running AdSense, I run Chitika in non-contextual mode and provide them with relevant keywords for my pages. I can tweak the keywords to get the desired results.

Appearance
Chitika provides a decent level of control over the appearance of the ads. You can set sizes, colors, hide tabs and set which tab is active on load.

Almost 30% lower. My traffic is mainly American and West European.

It's still better than my AdSense earnings but I was disappointed that the audit took such a large share. I thought it would have been 5 to 10 percent at most.

so I guess 30% cut is the average of most people got this time...

Oh, Well..I just put my adsense back to its sweet spot

30% is about it. That is you get to keep 70% of your stats. It should improve now the pictures are no longer clickable.

Where is this list? I've joined up and looked everywhere but can't find any specific list of countries they don't pay for.

Anyone notice lower CTR's since pics are not linked?

>Where is this list?

It exists only in their auditing software far as I can tell. I know it bizarrely includes all of the far east.

I reckon I've pestered them enough with questions this week, but contact them and ask, then post it if you can get an official list. Until I get a complete breakdown of countries I'm restricting Chitika to traffic from the US and Canada.

The official Chitika blog [chitika.com...] mentions "US, Canada, Western Europe and Australia", previously they have revealed that traffic from UK & France is accepted.

About two days ago I sent them a inquiry about what countries in Western Europe are supported for clicks, no response still...

You kind of get the impression that they don't know themselves which clicks they'll be paying for until the month is over and their sponsors tell them.

Yes, my CTR dropped a few percent because of that :(

Incredibele how earnings are going down and oscilating...

One day #*$!$, second day xx$, third day x$...

Crazy!

I've found CTR and click price to be stable. Far more predictable than Adsense. Possibly because once you put a non-contextual product up it has a reasonable chance of staying there (Note to Chitika - this isn't foolproof!)

I think in many ways Chitika is still a beta product. They know full well channel and auditing data is insufficient and a large part of the world isn't covered. I don't care. I can live with it. The alternative is Google and I hate Google. I have Battered Webmaster Syndrome from Google.

I've never seen a product whose time has come so well as Chitika's, and I'd rather they rolled it out right now with all its faults than waited and left me to Google's mercies.

Chitika ,

How you guys applied there.
I fillup a form there to signup but never received the confirmation email.
email to their support was never answered.

(I guess this has nothing to do with adsense forum but as you guys already discussing Chitika ,I though It can be a better place to ask)

I took a look at an online encyclopedia and it said these were probably in western europe.

Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark
United Kingdom and Ireland
Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg
Germany, France, Monaco and Malta
Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria
Italy, San Marino, Vatican City
Spain, Andorra, Portugal and Gibraltar

Until today, I thought San Marino was somewhere near Jamaica. And I have to wonder about the ex soviet countries such as Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

Perhaps someome wants to summon a Chitika rep to this thread?

Until today, I thought San Marino was somewhere near Jamaica.

Errr...are you jesting? It's in central Italy!

Third smallest state in Europe and claims to be the world's oldest republic...there's even a F1 Grand Prix named after it. Population about 29,000...

Correct! San Marino is some 100 km far from here :-)
Anyway: I tried to figure out a complete listing for Chitika and came up with this:

AT,BE,DK,GB,UK,FI,FR,DE,IS,IE,IT,LI,LU,NL,NO,PT,ES,SE,CH,GL,GR,AD,CA,US,AU

I'm not sure about Turkey (TR), Malta (MT) and Cyprus (CY).

Interesting that the new EU accession countries are not there!

Well I got my definition from a well known public encyclopedia as being what people usually mean by 'western europe' it might not be Chitika's definition, and my personal definition would have included some ex-soviet states (including some I wouldn't dream of getting traffic from).

If San Marino is famous for driving round and round in cars to see how fast they can go while not getting anywhere, that would explain why I never heard of it :)

Geography, sport and diplomacy aren't my strong points.
