When google has no good content adds to show which alternative companies do you use, <snip> I want something slcik and stylish even if it pays less at the end of the day I don't want to turn away my site users even if it will bring in some more dollars a day.

Thanks! :)

I set up a database of around 300 affilaite links ralted to my site. I select a couple targeted to the particular page, and use those as alternative ads.

ouch my post was neutered :(

How about fastclick or burst, they look a bit too much like "smash the monkey to get $20" to me but are they really that bad? It'd be worth a few thousand impressions per day (i don't really know how many PSA there actually are and this is part of the reason I want to find out!) but really seems pointless having wasted space!

i would not be using fastclick to fill up any remaining ad space if i were you -- i use fastclick (i have no cpc/extreme animation campaigns turn on) and just to give you an example, yesterday i had 90000 total impressions with fastclick code but only 17000 paid ones, that means defaults count for about 80% of total (i see from 70% - 85% defaults), plus you don't know when they can serve ads and when they serve defaults so you will waste a lot of space that way.

also, it should be noted that they have their own "defaults" you can run for something like .15cpm but they are extreme animation and will turn your visitors away (im talking about 486 ads here) the avg price for primary ads are about .30cpm now.

Daunk,

Burst might work, except they are are not as liberal as Adsense - that is, they don't allow you to show same adcode on multiple sites.

Everybody else,

The question remains open - what alternate ads can you recommend?

I was thinking, since I have 10+ sites, I could probably rotate their links/descriptions as alternate ads. This way I can get some cross-site traffic.

killroy, I would love to get some links from you with affiliate programs you use. :) I'm mostly interested in travel related affiliate programs (there are so many... which one do you suggest?) or B2B related affiliate programs.
Thanks in advance.

I just advertise some of the books in a URL I serve myself, i.e. an self targetted affiliate program as second choice ...

Makes the visitors less blind to both of the banners it seems as an added bonus.

Zoltan: I pretty much sign up to all programmes I come accross as I do research in my industry. Sometiems I even do searches for "keyword affiliate" in google. I use CJ and linkshare and so on. Then I compile a database of products and all suppliers for each, with target link straight into the product page and some extra info such as price. Then I weed them out by how well they convert. I usually give my visitors a choice, since my site is not a hard-sell site but an info site.
