Speaking of links and adsense.

Anyone notice this happening?

There is a site that has an ad on mine with AdWords that is quite large and well established.

In the past i have tried to get a link exchange with them for several years but they would not give me the time of day (much bigger site than mine).

I was running down some of the places that link to me and lo and behold, I have a link from them!

I think, mind you this is just an opinion, that since they are showing ads on my site they gave the link quietly to boost my link pop and help their ads.

Anyone else notice similar happening?

An Ode
Entitled: "49 minutes".

There once was a lady called Ann
And asking a link question was her plan
But when she did ask
Patience was not in her task
And she followed up as fast as she can.

(My answer's 'no' by the way)

Isn't that line in a Pink Floyd song?

I would think, my selfesh self that is, to keep advertisers with a low link pop so they need to advertise. i.e. I don't see how boosting your link pop helps them?

Sorry about the impatience but that was the way I was born, heh heh, fast and furious.

I would think that if I got more popular they would get even more of my visitors via clicks. They have no worries about anyone taking away their number one spot, just too darn big. The advertising makes me think that mayhap there be terouble in paradise?

Hmm... If you carry on with this type of thought process you'll end up with all the conspiracy theorists, believing that GWB shot JFK, or that the scientific community are covering up the fact that the earth really is flat.

When something odd happens, as you've described, then it is either a conspiracy (some hidden rationale) or a cock-up (no rationale or just plain stupidity). Whilst conspiracy theories are often more interesting (ie they have this cunning plan that by giving you pagerank they get more money) the cock up theory is more often right.

The explanation is therefore probably quite mundane. Eg: the person who rejected your link request put your email in the wrong folder and later, forgetting about you, ended up linking to you by mistake. Or perhaps someone else linked to you because the two of them didn't communicate. Busy people in multi-person organisations have been known to do this type of thing, several times a day.

Or perhaps there is another conspiracy theorist working for them, who reckons that if you were rejected there must be an ulterior motive. So it would be better if you were added and by doing so they'll get closer to finding out who really did shoot JFK...
