De-enrolling a site from AdSense

The site I used to first apply for an AdSense account is crap compared to my other newer sites. I never got around to improving that original site because I had been involved in other projects. Iam currently running AdSense in all of them but recently, I learned that a mix of low quality - high quality sites running off a single AdSense account can actually lower the overall EPC across the account.

I now intend to remove AdSense from all my lower quality sites and concentrate on improving them first before putting it back.

My question is: Is it enough to take out the AS code in those sites and the sites are considered "off my account" already, or, do I need to do other things (like inform Google)?

Personally, I would just remove the ads, telling Google won't accomplish anything.

How true is this?

Good question Brickwall.

I think that if you remove Adsense from the site that you originally used to get your account opened you need to let Adsense know, and basically submit a different site for review and approval if you want to keep using Adsense.

Why not just upgrade the content on the original site?

No, this isn't correct. The only time you will need to submit a new application because you have removed AdSense from the site you applied with is if you sell the site, and the new owner plans to apply for AdSense with it.

If you still have control over the domain, just remove the AdSense code, and all is good.

So Jenstar, it means that even if I discontinue that original site (take it offline), it won't matter?

That site is the only one I have in Google's records "officially". When I put my pub code on my other sites, I did not inform them. Sure they will know about these newer sites anyway and have them on record, but the original site was the only one that "officially" met and passed Google's standards so it must weigh considerably more in their eyes. So taking AdSense out of it or taking it offline might cause some problems.

Why is this line of reasoning wrong?

The reality is my original AdSense site is my poorest site, so I'd rather have it erased in Google's records for now, at least until I make some improvements on it.

I wouldn't care.

brickwall -

Just to confirm Jenstar's comment, you can simply remove the AdSense code from the site you originally applied with.

You can also paste your AdSense code into any site that complies with our program policies ([google.com ]). Our crawlers will automatically detect the new site and begin displaying relevant ads within 48 hours.

Cheers,

ASA

When adSense first came out I pretty much applied all my sites to it. ironically the one that got accepted was teh worst, most unsuitable site. It simply consisted of a large tiled image (more or less). I have never in fact ran adSense on this site, and it has never been a problem.

There is nothing in the TOS that says you HAVE to run adsense on any site, and you can run the same code on additional sites at will.

Thanks for the confirmation ASA =)

That's good news.

I love AdSense so much that I don't want to see poor sites running it, even my own. I'll remove ASAP.

Cheers.
