Google AdSense Publisher Survey

It appears all the noise with YPN, MSN and WW (and others) complaining has made Google blink. They sent out a very long winded survey today to see what AdSense publishers really want, like and dislike.

Google could've done this a loooong time ago!

Let's see if they value the responses and if it improves the situation.

Ahh, I was waiting for this thread.

I just completed and sent the survey.

In the survey, my heaviest theme was "Smart Pricing."

Smart Pricing is the most discouraging feature of AdSense. Several months back I created a ten-page section of my website. When it was done, I slipped in the AS code and waited.

And waited.

When the Channels updated, I had .03 cents clicks. While the subject matter didn't involve three-dollar keywords, it certainly was not .03 cent keywords.

I've been on YPN for a week now, and the EPC is much higher.

Rather than hijack Bill's thread, yes, I did the survey, thanked them for their excellent service, and respectfully asked them to dump Smart Pricing so revenue would be more consistent.

Google has been doing publisher surveys for ages. (I got one a long time ago.)

My number 1 recommendation was blocking keywords.

I had to remove adsense form one site that was paying me VERY well a few months back because too many competing sites were showing up, and the 200 limit url block was full.

How do you get the survey?

In the email?

Google has been doing publisher surveys for ages. (I got one a long time ago.)

First off - EFV - Empty your stinking stickymail - it's full you silly boy! ;)

Second, there were some questions geared toward figuring out if you were lookging to run away from AdSense.

Third, issues like SMART PRICING and your percentage of earnings were danced around but not mentioned explicitly so they know we're on the warpath of those taboo topics.

Nothing like competition, huh? Once you're not the only game in town, suddenly your "franchisees" (that's us) become very valuable and you do what you can to keep them on your team. As others are learning, YPN is paying much higher EPC (so far) and if you test and really micromanage it, you can find a combination of AS and YPN that works really well. I've seen a couple of sites shoot way up by picking and choosing which pages to run AS on or YPN. I think this survey is the first in a long line of "let's make publishers think we care more about them" ploys. It should be fun!

Hey Bizliteyear:

Not that I want to hi-jack this thread, but can you tell me if using YPN with AS violates the AS TOS?

I,ve truely never understood which ad providers violate the AS TOS and which ones don't (anybody have a link to a list)

Thanks, now everyone get back to the thread topic

:)

Survey comes just a few days since I started using YPN on a couple of my pages. I like having options, and so far YPN is looking up, like 2x up!

I did not think the survery was long winded and I for one was more than happy to participate, excuse me for being a homer, but I am rooting for Google and the entire Adsense Team. As far as I know they created and will always dominate contextual advertising.

I live outside the US, Therefore Google doesn't know I exist and I'm not likely to get asked anything, nor do my opinions count.

I would like to participate though - despite the fact that I am invisible.

I think the survey is a bit late.

It is good that they finally decided to survey the masses as opposed to only communicating with thier "big" publishers.

They should be surveying people - other networks are gaining popularity, and in my 1 day experience with Y - paying much better as well.

Surveys = Good : Thank you Google.

This part of the survey is extremely telling, in regards to future options to come:

2. How interested would you be in the following features if they were offered within Google AdSense?

Let advertisers bid specifically on my site

Give Google advertisers information about my site (e.g., user demographics, content type, etc)

Block advertisers by keyword

AdSense for newsletters

Payment for referring new publishers to AdSense

Optimization services provided by Google for a fee

Phone support

I especially love the phone support option, having been pleasantly surprised when Yahoo called me back with a tech support problem.

Yeah, and Gates came up with the idea for the GUI that became Windows. They developed and marketed the competition's product first. Not that there's anything wrong with that. It's business and while they are a warm and fuzzy company, they are still a company in the real world.
Sorry to go OT, I'm just deeply hurt I didn't get a survey.:(

Kamikaze ,

JenStar is the real expert on TOS, but I they way that I understand it is that you can use both on the same site, but you cannot have both on the same page.

Yeah, and Gates came up with the idea for the GUI that became Windows.

I wonder how many Webmaster World members are old enough to remember the forerunner of the Macintosh?

And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming. :-)

For those lamenting not being included in the survey, make sure in your AS profile that you're opted in to take part.

No survey here also.

Probably a good thing. I've bought, sold, and brokered just about every advertising medium for the last 20 years, and often been tempted to give them a heads up.

I doubt if they'd have listened though.

Besides, it's best for the marketplace to do it. That's the costliest lesson, but one they'll never forget.
