Do I have to click on new pages at least once for Adsense to

see them and know what topic they are?

I've had a site up for a while, in a subdirectory, about topic a. Say at:

www.mysite.com/topicA

A couple days ago I added a site:

www.mysite.com/topicB

The Adsense ad's on site B are targeted to topic A, even after four days. Do I have to click open each published page at least once to get Adsense to see the new topic on that page? Please help me understand how this works.

Thanks!

You could be seeing the effect of "site theming" where ads are targeted to the main theme of a site. That usually only happens the very first time a page with Adsens on it is viewed. But it has been known to continue being that way. If that's the case, I'd suggest looking at your home page for the culprit.

The first time anyone calls up a page with adsense on it is when the bot will pop around to see what the page is about. So yes, whether it's you ar a visitor that calls up the page, the ads that appear the very first time Adsense ads appear on the page, they may be site themed.

This even happens across multiple domains. I still see ads related to my inaugural site bluewidgets.com appearing on virgin pages for redwidgets.com. Once a particular site was only showing ads related to my inaugural site even after several weeks. I emailed adsense support about it, and somehow they fixed the targeting right away...

Looks like I should click on each page at least once, which isn't a big deal.

Thanks!
