Hmm.. just looked. UK accounts have 8 digits and 6 sort code.
The wonders of Unified Europe .. one big unified bliss ...
Thanks
Most banks in the UK use 8 digits, but there are a small number that differ - eg: LloydsTSB use 7, Girobank use 9. In order to fit an unusual length bank account number into 8 digits, banks use a "transposition" algorithm to convert the bank number. With LloydsTSB its easy, you simply add a zero to the start of the account number. With Girobank it is slightly more involved, and the transposition sometimes involves a change to the 6 digit sort code; in these circumstances you have to contact your bank and ask them for the tranposed sort code and account code.
If your account is in Germany but you are living in the UK then I suspect the Google system is assuming that you have a UK bank account. Because they pay in local currency (rather than using international codes) they may be insisting you enter an 8-digit code to conform to UK requirements and avoid any problems in the funds transfer.
I guess that entering German contact details might solve the problem, but in case that screws your system up in some unanticipated way, you're probably better contacting adsense support to get this resolved.
I entered my gf account number and sent a mail to Google asking if they can change it.
