Special ad?

I just loaded up one of my sites and noticed how the entire four-ad Google AdSense ad unit was replaced by a single one with a large title, a short description and an URL. (No, I'm not talking about the non-profit ones...)

Does this mean that the store ('cause it was a Web store) that has that ad has specifically placed a bid on my site to display that special ad there? I ask because I read about something similar here at WW, but can't find it or be sure that this is the same thing.

If it is, that's certainly a small but oh so important ego boost! ^_^

Most likely that adsense decided that showing this one ad was more likely to raise more money - it's a new feature. I've seen it on my site too.

I am seeing similar thing happening on my site too. In more than 60% pages, a single ad (an ad from the same website) occupies the whole slot. Definitely this is not contextual ad nor PSA.
Seeing it for the past 2 days.

It is either CPM or one of the optimized ad units.

I also get these, 1 ad per medium rectangle. The text looks normal size, but the whole (75% empty) rectangle is clickable, which if your ads are blended (same background) I reckon is a bit tricky (on Googles part?) Undue attention to the ad? Click anywehere near it and you got it. Also, have you noticed, if you hot spot your ad (dead centre) and a javascript alert comes up (dead cnetre), after you dismiss it, you are over your ad with the finger ready to click. Scarey if you're 'click shy' on your own site

People around here are even more paranoid than I. That can't be healthy.

Are we on a consensus here that it is to do with Google, not any problems with the site?

It's Google.

You may have a targeted ad. :) Watch your income for a few days and see if it goes up with the same number (or close) of clicks.
