I've been wondering this, too. I hope Google builds in an IP filter.

Search for a file named hosts somewhere in your operating system directory structure. Add the following line to this file:

127.0.0.1 pagead2.googlesyndication.com

This will disable all AdSense ads on your PC.

It is not a problem, G knows that and you are free to open as many page as you want, people with Forums (like me) open 100s of pages each day (i read everything in order to moderate) and i have an active forum with adsense.

Hi jacov888 and others -

Publishers can view their own web pages and perform normal site maintenance without worrying about generating invalid impressions. However, you should try to avoid reloading your pages excessively.

For more information, see:

Hope that helps!

I'm going to try the 127.0.0.1 trick, because I would prefer I not make any impressions, for the simple fact that I've been doing a lot of work on my site lately, and I'm afraid that if I leave impressions, it skewers my results in AdSense.

I can't get an accurate read of the statistics if I'm influencing my own impressions.

If ASA is right though, then I don't have to worry, but once or twice over the past week, I got the feeling that I added impressions, and it bothered me, because I don't want to trust the statistics.

Thanks to you all that replied. Now I can relax a little. Very useful information.

If its just page impressions, and not clicking on the adverts then who cares?

Surely Google isn't worried about non income generating traffic, regardless of where it comes from. What are they Big Brother?

Yes they are [I can't decide whether to put a smiley here or not], but the point here is that sites may be running CPM campaigns and earning $$ whether the ads are clicked or not.

I think the risk of normal oversight and maintenance causing problems is nil. But impression fraud does exist and has existed since the nineties when CPM ad networks were common. Thus Google has no choice but to have a clause covering this in the TOS.
