Advertisers with no clue about negative keywords

A rant

I sure wish I could supply negative keywords to certain advertisers.

I've got a website all about Williamsburg -- the one in Massachusetts MA USA. The words "Massachusetts" and "MA" are all over the site.

But, every single ad I ever see is for some attraction in Williamsburg VA. This does me, and them, little good.

If every single ad displayed on your site is for Williamsburg, VA, then it appears that there are no ads targeted to your content, or am I missing something?

The advertisers are all paying big bucks for the keyword "Williamsburg", but that means they get searchs and content targetting for "Williamsburg VA" and "Williamsburg MA".

What THEY really need to do is supply a negative keyword of "-MA" and "-Massachusetts".

I just wish I could do it for them.

Are you blocking those sites in your filtered list?
[google.com...]

This will help you serve ads better suited to your visitors, and hopefully, there are less than 200 of them ;) And don't forget that the filter seems to detect www.domain.com and domain.com as two different URLs for blocking.

I agree, many could utilize those negative keywords a little better!

brycen, if you deem it worth the energy, why not track them down (thru url) call or email them and just mention that you are an adwords pro (and you cam upon their site) or simply tell them the exact reason for your call.

Brycen, when I did more advertising in a narrow area, I WOULD e-mail or call other advertisers in other areas and explain the issue. Most appreciated the education. How you talk about it with them is key, of course. It's almost always just ignorance of the issue.

It's not unreasonable that an advertiser targeting people interested in Williamsburg, VA wouldn't even know there is a Williamsburg in Massachusetts, or in any other state for that matter. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has never heard of Williamsburg, MA.

When I search Williamsburg, MA on Google, I get one AdWords ad for Williamsburg, VA and one for Williamsburg, MA. The one for Williamsburg, MA may not be advertising on content sites. So again, it's very possible that there are no ads targeted to your content.
