For a long time I have been trying to come up with fresh, new ideas to monetize a forum that I run.

One of the best things I have done to date is to make a forum area that is Geographically sectioned - the more specific the location, the better.

This particular forum I run has users that are predominantly from the midwest USA.

I made a forum for each of the major cities in the mid-west, for users to discuss local events, etc. Doing this has brought on the local AdSense advertisements.... eg "Make $200 an hour in <insert city here>"

I am seeing a CTR that is 10 times greater in the local section than that of any other forum section. This one geographically targeted area provides more income than the rest of the forum combined, several times over.

I know I'm not the first to find out how well "Local" ads perform - but I never thought it would bring my forums CTR up to a WHOLE number. hint hint, wink wink.

It's only been in place for a week, so I expect the results to dwindle off by at 50% or more in coming weeks, but I'm sure it will still be the primary source of income for the forums of my site indefinately.

It definately sets the wheels turning.
Thanks for the tip, I think I can use this for a number of things- inside and outside my forums.
