Just out of curiosity, how long does it take Google to ban you from the time you click your ads?
Do they give you time to email them?

It seems like I've seen quite a few people that are new to the board that say 'Help, I've clicked my ads!" and everyone suggest to email google.... does google really forgive you?

I have been accidentally clicking one of my own ads 2 times in about 4 months (sensitive touchpad/heavy finger).
I have sent Google apologies within 5 minutes. They have responded in both cases repeating the no-clicking-your-own-ads part of the TOS, but it was no problem. I have no idea what happens if you don't send them an e-mail but I think I am not gonna experiment with that;-)

i accidently click on ads from time to time.. usually when im redesigning my site.. i never did send them a notice.. i just figured they would know if you are clicking on purpose by following some type of pattern or what not. then i get i usually get a few thousand clicks a day...

I'm not going to say it's a good idea to click on your own / competitor ads, but Google does have some neat IP tracking / filtering built into the AW system ;o)

Its a touchy subject for sure. I quite often want to click my own ads not for the monetary value but because there is something interesting there.

Having to mouseover it to get the url to paste into the browser is very annoying. Hopefully Google will add something to their control panel so clicks from certain IP's dont count towards the earning part of the clicks.

In the meantime you just have to keep mailing them, again, and again, an........

It pretty much rarely happens. It has to be pretty egregious. I have heard the threshold is anything over a 20% ctr gets a look at by hand atleast once.

I had a close relative whom my brother and I taught how to make money off his site with AdSense... not so tough. We just forgot to tell him not to click on his own ads which I thought was purely common sense.

It took Google about 1 month of him clicking on his ads every day before they banned him from his own account. I would let go of the single clicks as you are not going to get banned if you have a 100:1 ratio anyway. Just don't be stupid!

Google tracks your IP whether you are at work, home or a friends. If said IP shows up > X in X of time, it's a no brainer.

Good luck and quit clicking on your own ads silly!

My first day of adsense I did it; ignorantly. I didn't read the TOS very well.

Aye. I was not reprimanded.

Ocassionally now when recoding or adding to the site, I click a window I want out of the 10 open, and just happen to be on... an ad.

Nothing bad has happened...but that doesn't happen very often either.

Angelis -

There are ways to view your ads without generating invalid clicks. If you are using Windows and the Internet Explorer browser, you can download the Google AdSense preview tool. More information is available at:

[google.com...]

If you are not using Windows or do not have access to the Internet Explorer browser, you can view the destination URL of ads appearing on your site by following the instructions on:

[google.com...]

If you use these tips, you can set your mind at ease when you want to view the ads appearing on your site.

I think anyone running a good web site will occasional err, as an advert pops by they are interested in. But so long as it is an error and is not every day or even every week, but more like every month or two, i really think google would not even want you to waste their time by reporting it.
Effectively such a click is a valid click from the advertisers point of view!
