Get somebody else to stand in the street handing out the URL and give them a percentage!
Adwords is not as simple as that...If you are dealing in keywords that go out at say $10 a pop, you wont get much traffic using adwords at 10 cents a pop!

Could anyone suggest some ways for me to get some quick traffic (free traffic)?
This may not be particularly constructive, but this request sounds too much like "Can anyone suggest ways for me to get a free lunch"?
To gain decent traffic (and therefore potential revenue) you will need to invest seriously in at least two of the following three areas:
1. Time
It often takes months for SEs to pick up on new sites,
and for the sites to gain enough backlinks etc. to be
able to rank (unless your site is the first to
specialize in Mongolian Grounddwelling Treewidgets)
2. Energy
A good site is more than a few hand-edited HTML pages
on a subject every man and his widget is writing about;
a well-made site with original content and / or
innovative services will have a greater chance
of gaining genuine popularity amongst real visitors
(with accompanying potential for backlinks, repeat
visits and word-of-mouth marketing)
3. Advertising expenditure
AdWords and the like will get you traffic at a cost; only
you can tell whether that is worth the cash outlay.
you only have to realize this at some point (at best before you are busted) and then find another job that fits your abilities better.
every business has its losers, mostly more than winners.
if it wasn't so, it would be too easy.
sorry about this rude post, but this kind of threads grow exponentially.. i really could have posted it at any of these threads.
1. Exchange links with you, and/or,
2. Include some of your content on their website, (either getting paid for it or getting full recognition for it), or some of their contetn on your website.
And also,
3. Join "educational internet forums" - get your website address in your profile/signature - and TALK about your website EVERYWHERE :)
4. Add a link to your website as a signature to the bottom of your website business email. This way all business emails will have a link to the website.
5. (Offline activity) - Are there an "free" student, or educational supplements/magazines you can get an article or review about your website in? Likewise student/college radio or TV stations.
6. (Offline activity) - Local press - radio/TV/newspaper - write a "press release" launching your website and it's services - see if they will use it.
Anyway - thats a few things I would try :)
Get listed in many free directories. especially Dmoz.
Yes, and choose one of the lesser known Dmoz education categories, with an editor who has only a few Dmoz commitments (in other words, not the main "Top: Society: Issues: Education" category, which doesn't even have an editor right now). I had an educational site listed in just a couple of weeks by doing this. Even a listing in an obscure category can give you a PR5 link.
Could you please tell me which catogary it is since my site can fit into pretty much all of them. Thanks a lot.
Any category is fine, so long as the topic of your site is relevant. Don't expect heavy traffic directly from Open Directory. This is only one small part of a long-term strategy to build pagerank, and get indexed by several search engines.
If you scan through the posts in groups, you may be able to briefly answer questions posed and add a "more information visit this link", or put the url in your signature. Both of those normally comply with newsgroup ettiquete - posting "Hey - visit my site!" will be against most usenet charters and get people angry.
If you feel really brave, post the url to relevant newsgroups asking for critique/contributions.
There is no easy way to get instant results, but if you are in it for the long term with your site, then any work you do adding content and promoting it will repay you - I know :) :)
If you have just built it and magically expect people to find it and make you a living, it ainīt gonna happen.
It would be like starting a business in a street with no passing trade. Getting a phone installed but telling nobody the number. And then sitting there all day waiting for the phone to ring.
Then again, donīt blame yoursellf. Blame Google. Everyone else does.
