I changed to image and image/text ads about 3 days ago but still not seeing any, is this usual?

Not unusual at all. Have had this option for many months and probably actually see then less than 5% of the time.

what about the image only ads. They are all blank?

Can't help you there. Always have left it as image and text to ensure all available ads can be served.

It may be that very vew advertisers have opted to use image ads within your theme/topic. If this happens then you will almost always see plain text ads as opposed to images.
