Google still has bugs here. Sometimes the pageview count makes sense, sometimes it's double or tripled. Seems to randomly select a multiplier each time you add Ad Units or Ad Links to your site.
I've written Adsense about this and they've argued their stats are correct. But in one case they were consistenly reporting 2X the actual page views. At the time I had 1 Ad links units and 3 Ad units per page. I let this run for 2 weeks, during which Pageviews stats was consistently 2X actual. It did take Adsense almost 2 weeks before it crawled the pertinent page with these ad units, but even then still incorrect stats. This was about 5 weeks ago.
I pulled two Ad units and the Page views value became reasonable, immediately.
Google still cannot reliably count Add units even when given more than two weeks per Ad structure change.

Multiple sites could be a real problem, perhaps Google latches onto the number of ads on a specific site and applies it to all. But if it does it still does so inconsistently.

It also seems like when these stats are misreported 2x and 3x too high, earnings drop. So I usually work with one Adlinks and one Ad unit to reliably get correct stats.

I'd rather have more Ad units, allowing images and perhaps CPM ads, but until the Adsense team resolves this simple issue, no extra Ad units! Of course I'm stuck experimenting to find out if they've fixed this problem.

Caveat: remember, many ISP's are now caching your web page content, your server may not actually see a page view, that Google does see!

There are steps you can take to address this to some extent. Regardless of this caveat, my simple experiments indicate there are still major problems with Google's Adsense stats when using multiple Ad Units and, or, an Ad Links unit.

I've seen the same thing - where google reports 2x the pageviews, or perhaps is showing ad units instead of pageviews.

I've actually seen the opposite problem where my server's statistics show twice as many page loads as Google does. I've often wondered about it but page traffic is very hard to verify accurately.

If you use IFrames, a stats package like Awstats will show a PageView for each frame in a web page and a Pageview for the page itself. If a page has 2 IFrames, 3 Pageviews will be indicated in the totals for 1 actual PageView.

IFrames are not Frames, there is a difference.
