i have seen some very big and famous forums using revenue sharing modeles in ADsense

where they dont pay someone $$$, but rather.... they

let them put "their" adsense code on the website

(for example a person makes a post in a forum, and his adsense code is shown, u know what i mean)

is this allowed?

how many ppl her practice this?

does it increase traffic :D :d :d

that's definitely against the TOS:

5 Prohibited Uses. You shall not ... vi) ... incorporate the Ads ... in any ... Web site ... other than Your Site(s)

very excerpted from [google.com...]

This snippet from TOS may also be relevant:
You shall not display any Ad Unit on a page that contains Ads associated with another Google AdSense customer . . . unless authorized to do so by Google.

A couple days ago I asked Google directly about this kind of revenue sharing and they tell me this was ok.

I said I wanted to offer free web hosting and show MY adsense ads 50% of the time and user's ads the other 50% of time. I specified that the 2 adsense codes will NEVER be shown at the same time.

I am currently developing my new project around this revenue sharing scheme.

Maybe GoogleGuy can help with this one?

nalf.

That is already being done by several websites. One big one is a coop for google PR.

It is a well known site, so must be considered ok. They have been doing this for a number of years that I know of.

I would be very careful about a plan to give free hosting for a 50-50 split on the adsense code. It could put you on the wrong side of click fraud.
If the person writing the page, decides to up their earnings through clicking their adds 100 times, (which could easily happen if the person is only just starting at the webmaster thing through a free hosting service), They could end up hiting their own add 50 times, and you add 50 times. This would only have to happen a couple of times and Google might decide you're not worth the risk.

While the idea sounds good, it does have risks.

I have code on a site that is not mine, with the permission of both Google and, obviously, the owner of the site in question. The owner of the site also has ads on the same site and sometimes both codes are on the same page - again this has been okayed with Google.

The important thing is that I am also very closely involved with the maintenance of the site I do not own and therefore know with certainty where and in what circumstances both my code and the site owners code appears. Not just on this site, but on all sites that either appears on.

This is vital.

One of the points in the email Google sent when okaying this set-up was that the I am responsible for anywhere that my code appears.

Thus if the owner of a site which my code was on in any way contravened the TOS - then my status would be at risk by association.

For this reason I would not even consider letting other people put code on a site I owned or was associated with unless I had sufficient access to their AdSense account and to anything else I needed to make me absolutely aware and certain of everything they were doing.

So incentivising people to add content to a site by allowing them to also add their AdSense code is VERY very dangerous. You have no idea where else their ad code is used or what they are doing on other sites and at other times, but you are well and truely associated with it and liable to be affected by it.

Only the brave or the foolish would even consider going there. I would call building web sites around a model like this absolute madness and a certain road to exclusion sooner or later.

For some reasons I won't disclose too much about my project but don't worry I am not crazy. I know the about the risks. One thing I can say it's that it won't be open to anyone.
Anyway I really appreciate all your replies.
No more confusion.
Thank you!
