1/2 my pages aren't performing for me...

Stuck with an SSI right sidebar that is limited for optimizing (skyscraper)

I have a dilemma...

The way my biggest site is designed I have about 1500 pages pre-coded with a righthand skyscraper box (server side include). I am limited to what I can do within this box... and I've always used the 600 x 120 vertical unit with rotating colors and no borders. Once in awhile I put a yellow background to alleviate ad blindness.

Any ideas on how I can shake things up? If I could bring the CTR up to what it is for the rest of my pageviews, I'd cross the $300/day mark.... maybe the $500/day even... ;-)

I have no other AdSense units on the page. I really don't want to go through and redesign all 1500 pages right now either. The few I have redesigned (the most popular) have really paid off though. Any ideas what I can do in the meantime in that side bar that can work for me while I work through the pages slowly?

Maybe you could put some important content in the sidebar along with the ad so you make a new "hot spot" so to speak.

From what I remember, the side area is one of the worse spots on the Google hotspot map.

If the difference in earnings is that significant, it might be worth the time to redesign the 1500 pages.

Might even be as quick as a "find and replace" type situation.

Okay... maybe I'll have to play with some coding ideas!

Now... don't laugh at me... another problem is not yet having DSL in my area. I'm still on dial-up and this 1500 page site takes forever to open and close one file.

I'll work on the "good content" idea... that is really a GREAT idea. Didn't think of adding some rich content there... maybe something that changes weekly!

Any more creative ideas for a different look for the AdSense ads there?

I have dialup too :(
Because I live in the middle of nowhere and can't get anything else...

I use Dreamweaver templates to make changes sitewide. I don't know if this would help. My dialup is actually pretty fast, so it's not that big of a pain uploading a bunch of text-only files. Images take longer...
But still, dreamweaver makes it easy to update & I can set it to upload and leave it.

For ads... I tripled my earnings <added: In my case, that's an exciting increase of $3/day to $9...> by adding a random image above the ad. It really increased interest. If you put some kind of script-- (I use a banner rotating script to rotate pics, but it can be used to rotate text) then you can have a 'random quote' or something.
