CPM is a lie?

hello,
is CPM actually real (in that I'll get paid for people to just see the banner) or is it just a way to fool people around? if it is real, do I get paid by each impression or only every 1000 impressions?

from what I've read in the unclear help from google, I should be getting paid by impressions, but I've read on many places that it only pays by click.

I get about 250 unique people per day, and get 1 or 2 clicks a day, making my earnings something like 5 or 8 cents.

also, I only get site targeted ads for my main site. sub-sites get PSAs. why is that? the site I submitted to google is <snip> should I have added the www. before?

anyways, I hope I can get clarified on these topics,
thanks,
Ramiro Polla

You get CPM ads ONLY and ONLY if an advertiser has specifically chosen your site for their CPM campaigns. If no advertiser targeted your site, then you do not show CPM campaigns.

Otherwise, you'll see the default which is CPC campaigns, or the usual which is paid by click.

Of course Google pays for CPM ads.

That doesn't mean you'll get any.

The CPM ads are site-targeted, which means that advertisers choose the sites where their CPM ads will run. Unless an advertiser has chosen your site, you'll receive only CPC (cost-per-click) ads.
